Bukidnon Giant Bamboo Resources Corporation (BGB) works hand in hand with the Indigenous Peoples of Bukidnon and various groups in the Philippines to propagate and nurture Giant Bamboos. BGB is leading the bamboo industrialization into a sustainable enterprise.
Giant bamboos (dendrocalamus asper) are the largest members of the grass family. They grow up to 3 feet per day and reach maximum height in just 30 days. Individual poles are mature for harvesting in 4-5 years. One of the biggest environmental benefits of bamboo is its ability to absorb carbon dioxide and is a viable tool for carbon offset programs. In addition, its growth rate and resilience helps reforest denuded areas to reduce flooding and restore ecological balance. Its roots create a fibrous network holding soil together that improves water absorption and minimizes landslides. This fibrous network also hosts a micro-environment that restores soil nutrients.
BGB works with farming communities to develop practices to inter-crop bamboo with other high value crops that enhance and sustain economic potentials of food production and bamboo industrialization.
As a raw material, bamboo is incredibly strong yet lightweight especially compared to wood and steel. When dried and processed correctly, it outlasts wood and steel. Giant Bamboos, in particular, have unique characteristics that enhance these strengthsGiant Bamboos, in particular, have unique characteristics that enhance these strengths. BGB leverages these unique strengths to produce superior quality products.
